Heavy duty swivel casters from Blickle

Above and beyond – in both load capacity and speed

Casters can generally be divided into two different groups: swivel casters and rigid casters. With their vertical pivoting feature, swivel casters ensure that machines and devices can be manoeuvred easily. A swivel head connects the swivel fork to the fitting element. Swivel casters can be provided with different locking devices if necessary to block the rotational movement of the wheel and/or the swivel motion of the swivel fork.

A distinction is made between the following types of brakes:

  • Forward-locking brake systems (stop-top, wheel-stop)
  • Rear-locking brake systems (stop-fix, manually operated wheel-stop)
  • Stationary brake systems (ideal-stop, central-stop)

With the fitting types as well, the optimal version can be chosen based on the application. Although swivel casters used in heavy duty applications are usually provided with a plate fitting, in special cases a fitting with a stem or a bolt hole can make sense.

Anything is possible – Standard and special solutions

Swivel casters used in heavy duty applications also come in a wide range of versions. The load capacity of the heavy duty swivel casters is up to 30,000 kg and the wheel diameter up to 500 mm with a maximum mounting height of 675 mm. Upon customer request, Blickle can also produce custom-fit special solutions for applications around the world. A small selection of special solutions that have already implemented can be found in the Success Stories section.

In addition to applications involving heavy loads, heavy duty swivel casters are also used at higher speeds of up to 25 km/h. Compared to swivel casters in the light duty segment or in transport technology, they are built particularly sturdy in order to be able to move what are sometimes very heavy loads. Swivel casters with two wheels, so-called twin wheel casters, are also sometimes used in this area. Typical areas of application include industrial trucks, assembly and transport systems or indoor and outdoor installations of many different types.

All heavy duty wheels and casters from Blickle are tested according to the test conditions of the relevant DIN regulations - at 4 km/h according to DIN EN 12532, at higher speeds according to DIN EN 12533.

The right heavy-duty swivel caster for every application

The swivel rigs described above can be combined in almost any situation with the various heavy duty wheels. Here also, the wheels are suitable for different application areas depending on the tread.

The polyurethane wheels, for example, impress with high cut and tear propagation resistance, low rolling resistance, high dynamic load capacity and very good floor surface preservation. A distinction is made between the Blickle Extrathane, Blickle Besthane, Blickle Besthane Soft and Blickle Softhane series, which have a different Shore hardness, among other properties.

Steerable heavy duty casters with compressed cast nylon or nylon wheels, on the other hand, are extremely impact resistant and have a particularly high load capacity. They are especially suitable for smooth surfaces and delight users with their smooth rolling and very low roll and swivel resistance. With the LSSD-GSPO 500K, for example, it is possible to achieve a load capacity of 30,000 kg. This is accomplished with a four-point swivel bearing, such as is usually installed in mini excavators.

Heavy duty casters with elastic or super-elastic solid rubber tires and a steel rim are an alternative to pneumatic heavy duty swivel casters. This heavy duty series guarantees puncture resistance, maintenance-free operation under normal usage conditions and good stability with precise steering performance compared to pneumatic tires.

If a high load capacity is required, your best choice is suitable heavy duty casters with wheels made of solid steel. With these, loads of up to 15,000 kg per caster are no problem. If you are looking for swivel casters for use at high temperatures instead, Blickle offers versions with gray cast iron wheels for heavy duty applications. These can be used at ambient temperatures of up to 270 °C.

Thanks to various mechanisms, such as the patented plate spring construction, a robust spring structure with a steel spring or a built-in elastomer hinged plate, the spring-loaded heavy duty swivel casters impress users with spring and damping characteristics that are suitable for the respective application. This ensures that sensitive transport goods arrive safely at the destination despite any unevenness in the surface.

To complete this list, we must also mention the "mighty mites": our mini heavy duty casters. Although the load capacity does not compare to the previously mentioned wheel series, their load capacity of up to 350 kg is still very impressive for the 35 to 65 mm wheel diameter and total height of 52 to 90 mm. Compact casters combine a low mounting height with high load capacities. As a twin wheel swivel caster, the load capacity can even be more than doubled. You can find an overview of the compact casters in our online catalog.
